why exactly is excess nitrogen bad for water bodies
Naturally, nitrogen is found in lower amounts in water bodies because there are only a small amount of microbes that can scavenge for it. Excess nitrogen can enter water bodies in multiple ways. Ammonium and Nitrate can enter through water treatment plants and from run off that comes from farmers fields. The Ammonium and Nitrate in excess causes for microbes in water bodies to over grow so much so that oxygen becomes depleted
what is the strategy water plants use to decrease ammonium and nitrate amounts
grow planctomyces to preform anammox reactions which converts consumes nitrate and ammonium to make N2
how is nitrite detrimental to humans if in water
Nitrite is toxic and causes blue-baby syndrome if consumed through water provided by water plants with nitrite in it
what is the intermediate in nitrification and denitrification that is bad for the atmosphere
N2O- put into atmosphere is a green house gas so it destroys ozone
