A) A cline is a change in the characteristic of inhabitants living in nearby locations from one end to another. A cline can be measured by the distinguishing characteristic such as blood type or genes or it can also be measured by physical characteristics such as skin color, height or size of the body.

B) A physical characteristic that altitude can modify is decreasing the size of the plant as the altitude goes higher. It is often referred to as the tree line wherein certain environmental measures are not met such as the lack of moisture and pressure which are both essential to a growing tree.
