South African government during the period of its apartheid policies can be compared to a modern-day authoritarian government. It can also be called an oligarchy because one group of people was exerting its rule over the majority of the population. This can be compared because, during apartheid, the minority white population of South Africa held all the political power, not allowing the majority of the colored population its political rights. This government also successfully segregated the colored population of the country, making it very difficult for them to live in their country.
