The reasons for the peak at 8 A.M. is because many people travel to work at that time, and the reason for the peak at 5-6 P.M. is the same people returning from work. The reason there is more traffic during the day than during the night, is because people are sleeping. That is why the number of cars continues decreasing after 6 P.M.
