David Tilman and some of his co-workers studied the diversity and productivity of Minnesota native prairie plants. They experimented on 147 plots, wherein each plot was made of up to 24 different combinations of Prairie plant species. Their results showed that the plots which contained higher diversities of Prairies also had a higher amount of plant material produced. Moreover, those plots with high combinations of Prairie species were more resistant to drastic environmental conditions such as drought.
