Peter and Rosemary Grant, among other things, studied the medium ground finch on a Galapagos island. They were mostly engaged in the study of natural selection. Over the years, they have noticed that the size of a finch`s beak changes after a dry period. Because the birds with the largest beak are the most drought-resistant, the next generation is most born with large beaks. They observed how natural selection affects this species of bird. They also proved that natural selection sometimes happens very quickly, that it does not have to go through a very long period of one life, as Darwin and his followers thought until then.
