Briefly explain its connection to the imperialism of 1850–1914. 7. Raj
Solution
VerifiedRaj or the British Raj is the period of direct British rule in India from 1858 to 1947, during the reign of Queen Victoria. The period of direct rule started after the rebellion called the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857 which was sparked by the rumor that the newly introduced Enfield rifles were greased with beef and pork fat. This enraged both Hindus and Muslims since they had to bite off the ends to release the powder and use the cartridges. Even though it was unsuccessful, this event marked the end of the East India Company’s rule in India, forced the British Empire to reconstruct its system of governance in India, and therefore marked the beginning of the Raj period.
