Consider two data sets, A and B. The sets are identical except that the high value of data set B is three times greater than the high value of data set A. How do the box-and-whisker plots of the two data sets compare?

Given: Data set A and data set B are identical, except that the high value of data set B is tree times greater than the high value of data set A.

The whiskers of the boxplot are at the minimum and maximum value. The box starts at the lower quartile, ends at the upper quartile and has a vertical line at the median.

Since only the maximum value of the boxplot will be different for the two data sets, the only difference is that data set B will have a much larger whisker beyond the third quartile Q3Q_3 than data set A.
