Stalin became the leader of the Soviet Union right after Lenin died. Being a totalitarian leader, he imposed totalitarianism across the entire union. It was a severe dictatorship - one party was in charge of everything, starting from the government up to the lives of ordinary people. No one occurred to question the decisions made by the party. Those who were brave enough to do that were punished in a very harsh manner. Unfortunately, many people were brutally killed and sent to labor camps. Peasants were forced to give their properties to the government. Brutality was not unfamiliar to Stalin while executing his political opponents.
