Question

Discuss the following questions. What conditions in the postwar United States contributed to the baby boom? How did the baby boom contribute to the prosperity of the era?

Solution

Verified

In your groups you can discuss the baby boom starting due in large part to couples being reunited after the war and wanting to start families. They were able to do so because the GI bill gave them the resources to purchase a home and even go back to school if they wanted to further their education. Popular culture also celebrated and promoted pregnancy and parenthood during the 1950s which further contributed to the baby boom era. The baby boom positively affected the economy because families were rushing to buy homes in the suburbs and goods were being bought at exceedingly high rates due to all the new babies being born. All this demand drove the economy forward at an increasing pace.
