High altitudes have an impact on the human body like shortness of breath because of low air pressure resulting in less availability of oxygen for breathing. People who are in high-altitude areas are at risk of developing severe altitude sickness symptoms.
The air density with increase in height or altitude starts decreasing because of gravity. Due to gravity the weight of the Earth draws air as low as possible to the surface and hence it is denser near sea level or earth’s surface. Density can be thought of as the other reason. The volume of gas molecules in the air starts decreasing as the altitude increases; the air becomes less concentrated than air at the sea level.
. Although about half of the molecules in the atmosphere lie below certain altitude, after that air pressure is reduced in significantly by about 50percent. Rate at which pressure decreases is rather slow.
