Question
Does the buoyant force on a floating object depend on the weight of the object itself or on the weight of the fluid displaced by the object? Or are these both the same for the special case of floating?
Solutions
VerifiedSolution A
Solution B
Answered 2 years ago
Based from Archimedes' principle, the volume of the object is equal to the volume of the liquid displaced. As for floating objects on liquid, the weight of the displaced liquid would be equal to the object's weight.
Hence, the buoyant force is dependent on either the weight of the object or the weight of the displaced liquid

Floating objects displace the weight of water that is equaled to the weight of the original object.
