Bridges predicted and later proved that the females with white eyes from his crosses possess two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome and that the males with red eyes possess a single X chromosome. Significance of his study is that he linked the inheritance of a specific gene to the presence of a specific chromosome, X chromosome.
