1 of 3Neuropeptides are proteins that can cause changes in the nervous system. Besides other parts of the central nervous system, they play an important role in pain regulation pathways. Without them, we would probably experience pain sensations more intensely than in their presence.
Enkephalins and serotonin are the most abundant neuropeptides in pain management.
Neuropeptides are substances which helps the neurons to communicate with each other. In an example of pain reduction, it acts as a modulator, meaning it changes the signals from the nociceptors all along the axon and turning them into signals which are less painful.
