In nutrition, the amount of energy is measured with Calories (large calories, or kilocalories), which is the unit of heat. A Calorie is determined as the energy required to increase the temperature of 1 kilogram of water for 1 °C. An average adult needs about 2000 Calories a day. The biggest component, about half or 1000 Calories, should be carbohydrates. Protein intake supposed to be about 25% or 500 Calories, while fats shouldn't be larger than 25 to 35% or about 500 Calories per day. One gram of carbohydrates and proteins gives 4.1 Calories, while one gram of fats provides 9.5 Calories of energy.
