-Biological: Men and women have different sex chromosomes, which contributes to differences in anatomical and hormonal development and may contribute to behavioral differences (e.g. connections in the brain that are active in the formation of social relationships are stronger in women than in men).

-Psychological: Women express emotions more freely, and in warmer ways, than men do. This may explain their superior ability to form intimate social connections and to seek social help in times of stress.

-Social: Social gender roles explain many observed gender disparities, especially in representation in positions of political and economic power. Women may be underrepresented in politics, for example, because voters tend to see assertive women as more “unlikable” than equally-assertive men.
