Deregulation is the decrease or elimination of government power in a certain industry, which is generally done to increase competition within the business. The deregulation of the airline industry removed limitations on where airlines might travel. Airlines used the hub-and-spoke systems to improve efficiency, with a few big airports serving as primary linking hubs. This approach improved aircraft use, boosted passenger loads, and kept more planes in the air. However, many overloaded airports now have a single dominant airliner. In certain situations, prices are greater than they were before deregulation.
