How did the church influence life during the Middle Ages?
Solution
Verified*Answer to question 1 on page 344
The Church had a heavy influence on both the religious and everyday aspects of life during the Middle Ages. Except for its laws, which preceded the state laws and for a period were the most important laws in Europe, it had much influence on culture as well. Most great works of art from this period were inspired by religious topics and symbols. Dante's The Divine Comedy is the prime example of this. This influence was also easy to see in the architecture of the time. Other than people's houses, churches were among the most common buildings from that period. During the Gothic period, they were built to be as tall as possible, because their architects designed them to look like they were reaching for the heavens.
