Question

How does a social category differ from a subculture?

Solution

Verified

Social category is the result of diversity between people in one culture. And that diversity is caused by social characteristics such as gender, religion, age, occupation, education etc. On the other hand, subculture is the group within dominant culture which is somehow different from dominant culture especially in terms of beliefs, values and interests. So, in every culture there are many different social categories and they are a part of it but subculture represent a part of “foreign” culture within the ‘big”, dominant culture.
