How much should the United States rely on nuclear power as a source of energy? Explain your view.
Solution
VerifiedI think that the US should rely on nuclear energy as an alternative to fossil-fuels, but not as an alternative to wind and solar power. The risks associated with nuclear power plants are generally low, with some famous exceptions at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and the Fukushima Daiichi plant. These risks are especially low in comparison to the known risks associated with fossils fuels. However, accidents do happen, and when they happen at nuclear power plants, they are especially dangerous and costly. As green energy technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, wind and solar energies are a more promising alternative to nuclear. That said, nuclear is still a better choice than petroleum and other CO2 emitting energies, and the United States should rely on it more.
