Society during the Renaissance was made up of the clergy or religious leaders, the nobility, and the peasants and townspeople. It was male-centered and relied heavily on strategically-arranged marriages. Aristocratic nobles held the most power and had a high level of education and involvement in the arts. Peasants and townspeople included serfs, free peasants, patricians, burghers, workers, and unemployed people. Those at the bottom of society had very hard lives.
