The Dutch, French, and British colonized much of Southeast Asia in the 1800s. The British colonized Burma and Malaya, the Singapore port greatly enriched Britain. The Dutch expanded their colonial control within Southeast Asia in the Dutch East Indies, which is now Indonesia. France eventually seized Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, their holdings became known as French Indochina. The people who were colonized under Britain and France fought against the colonization and lost brutally.
