In step 1: the transporter is inactive and a solute molecule is ready to bind to it.
In steps : When the solute binds to the cytoplasmic portion of the transporter, ATP is hydrolyzed to ADP and a phosphate is introduced to the transporter.
In steps : A conformational change occurs in the transporter and the solute molecule is transported outside.
In steps : When solute dissociates from the transporter, the phosphate is removed from the transporter and it is reverted back to its nonphosphorylated state.
