Alpha particles cannot expose the film inside the box because alpha particles cannot penetrate the box whereas beta particles can easily penetrate the box and expose the film.
Alpha particles can penetrate only thin sheet of paper or few centimeters of air whereas beta particles can penetrate few millimeters of aluminium.
