Question

In a review of Spoon River Anthology, Carl Sandburg wrote, "The people whose faces look out from the pages of the book are people of life itself, each trait of them as plain or as mysterious as in the old home valley where the writer came from." I think that Carl Sandburg's remark accurately describes Lucinda Matlock. The poem provides us with a very honest insight into the life of a woman who has managed to lead a rich and fulfilling life. From the dances and games of her youth to her childrearing and work of her adulthood, we are provided with a very concise look at a persons life. We are able to vividly imagine this woman, her hard work, her outlook on life and the lessons that she has learned along the way.
