The assimilation policy of the Dawes Act failed because white had eventually taken nearly two-thirds of the territory promised to the natives and they also didn't receive any money from the sales of land. Native Americans had a strong connection to their cultural heritage and beliefs, forcing them to change their views was nearly impossible.
