According to Sigmund Freud, the three parts of personality are id, ego and superego. Id is the part of the personality that seeks to satisfy needs, to bring pleasure, without caring for the consequences. Superego is the idealistic part of the personality; it is concerned with morality of our actions, how our actions should be. Ego is the mediator between seeking immediate satisfaction and unrealistic ideals, it is the realistic part of the personality which makes sure that the needs are satisfied in socially acceptable and realistic way.
