Solution
VerifiedThe high mountains are generally impassable, but the Hindu Kush have several wide, very high passes. The most important is the Khyber Pass in northwest Pakistan along the Afghanistan border. This pass has allowed armies to enter the Indian subcontinent. A highway through the Khunjerab Pass in the Karakoram is being modernized by China as a link to Pakistan. The mountainous northern and western regions of Pakistan are prone to earthquakes. To the east is the Indus River valley, which has rich alluvial soil. The Indus and its tributaries form two alluvial plains. Bangladesh is very flat and low, reaching only about 30 feet above sea level. The largest river delta in the world is in Bangladesh being emptied by the Ganges and Brahmaputra. People rely on these rivers for farming, transportation, and power. Many haors are found in the southwest. In the dry season, they are tapped for irrigation. All these bodies maintain fish life that adds to the diet of the people of Bangladesh. They offer potential for developing commercial fisheries, too. Recently, however, commercial shrimp farming has threatened wild fish populations.
