In the purpose of explaining certain laws connecting temperature, pressure and volume of a gas, we use a gas container. The container has a piston on top, which can be used to compress the gas. Now, if we keep the pressure constant for example, by compressing the gas (we decrease the volume) we increase the temperature of the gas.
