Should organizations that promote free trade have environmental or social checks and balances? Why or why not?
Solution
VerifiedOrganizations that promote free trade like EU, NAFTA and WTO should have a regular analysis of environmental protection and social politics because these are sensitive areas in each country. The idea of free trade is in the encouragement of competitiveness and cancelling all barriers in the exchange of goods and services (where all countries are focused on exclusively their benefits). For example, a country can be oriented towards the production of cheaper machines, but during the production, pollution inputs are used. Thanks to the free trade, countries that signed the agreement won't be able to ban the import of those machines to their market. Because of the low price, machines are going to be sold better than the competition, no matter the consequences in later years.
