Suppose two individuals develop benign (noncancerous) tumors that produce symptoms because they occupy space and crowd adjacent organs. If one of these persons has the tumor in the thoracic cavity and the other has the tumor in the abdominopelvic cavity, which person would be likely to develop symptoms first? Why? Which might be more immediately serious? Why?
Solutions
VerifiedIf a person has a pain in the umbilical area some organs which are located in this part of the abdomen can cause the pain (large, small intestine, and appendix) sometimes some stomach, gallbladder, and pancreas problems can cause pain in the umbilical region.
The individual with the tumor in the thoracic cavity would probably develop symptoms first. Since the thoracic cavity is smaller and the tumor would exert pressure against the lungs and/or heart which would cause great distress to the individual.
