Every citizen of United States has mandatory obligations that it has to oblige by. Obeying the law is one of mandatory obligation of every citizen, staying loyal to the constitution. It is of great importance because obeying the law ensures many things that benefit society as whole. If a law is broken there might be a penalty for it, which is mandatory to pay. There are other obligations such as respecting individual rights and beliefs of others, taking part in your local community, and paying income taxes. Obligations and responsibilities are somewhat of a similar word, however there is a difference. Obligations are acts that a citizen is legally or morally bound to, while responsibilities are duties that an individual is expected or required to do. What makes democracy function for the sake of people is people contributing for it through some obligations such as tax paying. Without citizen obligations, eventually there would be no more citizens, or the state would turn into anarchy.
