The mode is the value repeats the most so it tells us what the most common value is. Not all data sets have a mode and some have more than one mode if more than one data values repeat the same number of times. The median is the middle of the data set so it tells us what value about half of the set is less than and about half of the set is greater than. The mean is the balance point of the data set so it tells us what the typical value is for the set. When a data set has an outlier, the mean is greatly affected by the outlier while the median isn't so if a set has an outlier, the median is a better description of the center than the mean.
