What are the three major sociological perspectives?
Solution
VerifiedThe three major sociological perspectives that deal with the nature of society are Structural Functionalism, Symbolic Interactionism, and Social Conflict Theory. Structural Functionalism is the theory created by Emile Durkheim who compared society to a living organism which has its parts (institutions) which have to perform their functions in order for the society to achieve stability and in order for the social order to be established. For instance, a school's manifest function is to educate children; however, one of its functions is to make children socialize, to make them respect the authority etc. However, the problem with this theory is the fact that change sometimes happens in the society. So, when a particular change occurs, it disrupts the whole system which was functioning perfectly until that moment.
