The TVA helped provide construction jobs to workers that build dams along the Tennessee River. These dams helped provide electricity to rural areas and were not dependent on fossil fuels. This made them affordable sources of rural energy, however, these dams negatively impact the native wildlife in the region. Dams blocked the natural flow of the river affecting migration and nursing patterns. The turbine can also kill wildlife that gets sent through the dam.
