One of the main goals of President Taft's foreign policy was to promote U.S. trade around the world. To achieve this, he led a so-called 'dollar diplomacy'. In his 'dollar diplomacy', Taft tried to intervene in international affairs by stabilizing regimes around the world. He did so because he believed that stabilized governments would be better suited to trade with the U.S. and that U.S. influence would be spread there if it helped a certain country stabilize.
