Peristaltic rush is caused by an irritated or excessive wall of the small intestine, resulting in watery stools or frequent defecation, i.e. diarrhea. Diarrhea occurs when a strong peristaltic rush passes so quickly along the entire organ that nutrients, electrolytes, and water are not absorbed.
