Question

# What is the advantage of transmitting power at high voltages?

Solution

Verified
Step 1
1 of 2

The advantage of using the high voltages in transmitting the power is to reduce loss of power and to use less material in making transmission lines.

First thing we mentioned is proved by writing equation for transmission loss:

$\begin{gather*} P_{loss}=RI^2 \end{gather*}$

So less current leads to less loss of power.

Also as current rises, cross-sectional of wire has to be greater, to be able to carry such a current. So with lower currents we will also save money spent for material.
