Another name for the Krebs cycle is the Citric acid cycle. It was discovered by scientist Hans Krebs. This cycle represents a string of various chemical reactions. It is important since it aims to produce energy (through the oxidation of acetate), which is later on used by all aerobic organisms (organisms that require oxygen for their growth). It is also important for the synthesis of NADH and the production of amino acids. The Krebs cycle happens in the mitochondria of eukaryotes and the cytosol of the prokaryotes.
