The Allies began to use the island-hopping strategy against Japan. The US recaptured islands one by one to weaken the Japanese empire. Then, the United States decided to attack the Japanese with atomic bombs that were dropped on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan surrendered soon after the bombings.
