The American Dream was an idea that was founded on the basic principles of the American economy and society, which was that anyone can get rich if they are willing to work hard enough. It was at that time that many refugees and immigrants were coming into the U.S. mostly because they saw it as the 'land of opportunities' and were hoping that they could get a fresh and successful start there. Another important aspect of the American Dream is that people's backgrounds did not matter and that those from better families had the exact same opportunities as those from better families.
