The Twenty-Fifth Amendment codified a line of succession to the presidency. Apart from the Vice President, other positions such as the Speaker of the House, the Senate President Pro Tempore, and Cabinet secretaries would also be in line. In addition, if there was ever a vacancy in the Vice Presidency, the President was now authorized to appoint a replacement, subject to the approval of Congress.
