The authors wrote that Germany faced a hopeless two-front war because they could not handle the enemy forces which led to their inevitable defeat. Beginning from the east, the Soviet soldiers were steadily pushing German armies out of Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. Germany gradually lost control of the regions it had previously governed and the natural resources it had taken. In northern France, British and Canadian troops had finally burst through the German lines and headed south. Hitler had commanded to destroy the French capital, but generals defied him.
