In comparison to females that have XX chromosomes, males have XY chromosomes. Mutations on one chromosome, such as having missing fragments on the X or Y chromosome, in males would allow him to be affected by the disease.

Here, it only takes one affected allele for males to be affected by the disease, in comparison to females that have an extra X chromosome to spare.
