Fungal infections that come from pets are usually dermatophytes. These fungi are very common and if they do cause an infection, they can be cured. Pathogens can be transferred during petting cats or dogs. Fungi that only affect humans are usually rare and the person has to have a weakened immune system for the fungi to cause an infection. Fungi are usually the same for animals, humans, and soil because the soil is usually the intermediary to infections that can affect humans.
