Question

Would you consider the looters in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina to be a representative sample of the disaster victims? If so, why? If not, why were some news reports presenting them as such?

Solution

Verified

USA has the population of 325 million people and all of them have an eating habit. If we consider that this very large population is composed of people living in different climate conditions (cold North and warm South) which affect eating habit and also people coming from many cultures which also affects what people eat, it is quite clear that three thousand individuals just could not be considered a representative sample. Three hundred thousand people would be more likely the number of individuals that could be a representative sample.
