Question

Write a paragraph summarizing the political situation of the regions of Southeast Asia by 1900.

Solution

Verified

The political situation in most of the Southeast Asian region was dominated by the colonizers. Cambodia and Vietnam were taken by the French while Great Britain gained control of Burma and Singapore through colonial expansion. The governments setup in these regions were typically controlled by the colonizers with the one exception being Thailand. The United States took over part of the Philippines during this time in an effort to expand trade relations with China. The government installed by the U.S. would be virtually completely controlled by them.
