Production of alcohol from glucose (fermentation):

C6_6H12_{12}O6_6 yeast\overset{yeast}\rightarrow 2CH3_3CH2_2OH + 2CO2_2

This way, only about 13-15% of alcohol can be produced because the yeast, that is responsible for fermentation, can no longer survive those conditions. In order to get higher percentage of alcohol, process of distillation is the only way to to that.
