An element is determined by its number of protons i.e by its atomic number. If we add one more proton to the nucleus of germanium which already has 32 protons it will have 33 protons and will become a different element. Using the periodic table it can be seen that the resulting element is arsenic, which is poisonous and not recommended for consumption.
