Mexico was long discontent with its dictator Porfirio Diaz who had, for 35 years, allowed a small group of people to amass the country's wealth. Their protests were united when, in 1910, Francisco Madero started demanding free elections for which he was imprisoned. This, however, caused a revolution to be started across the country and Diaz soon resigned.
